365 Day Movie Challenge: August 29, 2012
Movie: Grosse Pointe Blank (1997)
Director: George Armitage
Starring: John Cusack, Minnie Driver, Alan Arkin, Dan Aykroyd, Joan Cusack,
Hank Azaria, K. Todd Freeman, Jeremy Piven, Mitch Ryan, and Michael Cudlitz
Plot: An assassin goes back to his home town class reunion for two reasons: to kill his latest target and to reunite with his high school sweetheart.
Review: This movie is a lot of fun. There’s something about watching comedians like Cusack and Aykroyd being total badasses, cracking jokes all the while. It just brings out the kid in ya. Well, maybe that’s going too far. But, it’s definitely something you don’t see everyday. Certainly not handled this well at least. It’s one of those rare action/comedies that actually works as both. It’s fantastic. And, the cast is packed to the brim too. Every single character in this movie is both memorable and likeable (with the possible exception of Joan as the secretary whose a little annoying). It has its share of problems (his best friend is pretty ok about disposing a dead body), but it doesn’t really matter all that much. This movie aims to have fun. And have fun you will. Even if it kills ya. Sorry.
