Movie: Escape from Alcatraz (1979)

Director: Don Siegel

Starring: Clint Eastwood, Jack Thibeau, Fred Ward, Patrick McGoohan,

Larry Hankin, Paul Benjamin, Frank Ronzio, Roberts Blossom, and Bruce M. Fischer

Plot: A group of criminals plan their escape from Alcatraz.

Review: For a movie about Clint Eastwood escaping from Alcatraz, this is actually pretty boring. The first half is good. I feel like it’s a pretty accurate look at how the world’s toughest prison would actually be. The characters are interesting, even if they all were done better in Shawshank Redemption. And Clint Eastwood does his usual 90 minutes of anger. However, the second half is pretty much just planning. Unfortunately, the actual escape is not as interesting as you’d think. They kind of just work their way out slowly. No problems. No confrontation. No real suspense. It’s an ok movie. Just not what I was expecting. Not my cup of tea and quite aged.
